August is the month most residents write off. The temperatures peak, the snowbirds are gone, and the working assumption is that nothing new happens until October. That assumption is now wrong. The two resort properties on Mesquite Boulevard have spent the past year rebuilding their dining and entertainment calendars, and August is the first month where the payoff is fully on display for people who live here.
The short version: CasaBlanca Resort & Casino is undergoing an extensive remodeling project valued at approximately $6 million, and the results have arrived as new restaurants, a new sportsbook build-out at Virgin River, and a monthlong slate of shows priced for the local rewards crowd rather than the weekend tourist. If you have not been inside either property since spring, the map has changed.
The Dining Room Turned Over
Casa Café is gone. In its place, CasaBlanca debuted two new dining experiences, Jersey Joe's Diner and Ritas & Fajitas, developed under Executive Chef Christopher Dreyer, with Jersey Joe's serving classic East Coast comfort food in a 24/7 retro-diner setting and Ritas & Fajitas featuring Mesquite's only dedicated tequila bar. The grand opening drew crowds on August 25 of last year, and the menus have settled in enough that the kitchens are now running weekly rotating specials rather than launch-week staples.
Those specials are the tell. From August 10 through 16, Jersey Joe's is running a Cuban Panini while Ritas & Fajitas serves a Torta Pollo; from August 17 through 23, it shifts to a Chicken Panini and a Torta Al Pastor; and from August 24 through 30, an Iowa Pork Cutlet Sandwich pairs with a Torta Huevo, with a $3 J. Lohr Red Wine special on Friday, August 28. A resort does not build a rotating weekly menu for tourists passing through on a Saturday. It builds one for the people who eat there on Tuesday.
The third addition is quieter but more interesting. 88 Seats is an experiential Chinese restaurant that debuted in celebration of the Lunar New Year, inspired by Beijing's Golden Pagoda, with a counter bar, a private dining room, a Mahjong table, and historic memorabilia throughout, and veteran Las Vegas chef John Lei leading the menu. One of the restaurant's 88 seats is designated as the "golden seat" each day, surprising one guest with a special prize. If you have out-of-town family visiting in the fall, this is now the reservation to make. It did not exist eighteen months ago.
Over at Eureka, Gregory's Mesquite Grill has finished its remodel with a Parlour Bar, a Club Room, four private dining rooms, and new menu items including mesquite-smoked homemade meatballs, Mediterranean Sea Bass, and Honey Lavender Chicken.
The August Calendar Is Built for Rewards Members
Here is what a typical week actually looks like this month at the CasaBlanca Showroom and Virgin River Events Center:

The pool programming is where the pricing model shows itself. The Casapoolooza series at the CasaBlanca Pool runs throughout the month for Mesquite Journey Rewards members aged 21 and older, with doors at 6:30 p.m. and shows from 8 to 10 p.m. — Closure on Friday, August 7, Mr. Worldwide: Pitbull Tribute on Saturday, August 8, Twisted Cherry on Friday, August 21, and Uptown Funk: Bruno Mars Tribute on Saturday, August 22 — with $3 well cocktails and beers on select dates and private cabanas available. Free entertainment access and promotional offers require a Mesquite Journey Rewards membership, available at either property's rewards desk with a valid ID.
The membership requirement is not a barrier. It is the point. The properties are optimizing for the resident who will come back next Thursday, not the traveler who will not.
Bingo, Fights, and a Sportsbook That Just Got Bigger
The Virgin River Sportsbook completed its build-out earlier in the year. The expansion added several new 85-inch TV monitors, a 53-foot-by-10-foot video wall, and 90 additional slot machines on the gaming floor. August is the first month where that infrastructure gets pushed.
Live sports broadcasts begin with UFC 330 at the Virgin River Sportsbook on Saturday, August 15. Both resort sportsbooks will air the U.S. Open Tennis tournament from Monday, August 24 through Sunday, September 7, while college football coverage begins on Saturday, August 29.
Food and beverage runs alongside all of it, with $6 hot dog and chips combos, $10 buckets of Bud Light or Michelob Ultra, and $5 beer-and-shot offers at both sportsbooks through the month.
If bingo is more your speed, the numbers this month are unusually high. From Friday, August 21 through Saturday, August 22, the bingo room hosts a $35,000 Two-Day Bingo Event starting at 11:30 a.m. each day, with a $120 buy-in that includes entry for both days, a complimentary two-night hotel stay, a $10 daily food credit and $10 in free slot play. The month also opens on Monday, August 3 with a $1,000 Back to School Ball game during regular sessions, Coverall Frenzy every Tuesday at 1 p.m., and additional $1,000 Special Ball games on Tuesday, August 11 for the Son & Daughter Ball and Saturday, August 15 for the Relaxation Ball and Dog Day Ball.
What to Book Now for Early September
The first two weeks of September are already filling in, and a few dates are worth putting on the calendar before the summer wraps.

Winefest is the one to flag for anyone who has moved to town in the past year and has not yet found the local nonprofit rhythm. It is on the city's official events calendar and it is the kind of evening where you meet neighbors you did not know you had.
Two Notes for the Practical Resident
A couple of quiet updates worth knowing about. An exclusive retreat for guests who have reached the Onyx tier, the highest level in Eureka's Gold Club loyalty program, has also opened — the Onyx Lounge, located just off the casino floor, offers a quiet retreat with refined design, plush seating, curated bites, a full coffee station and a well-stocked bar. If you have been in the Gold Club long enough to qualify, it is worth asking about at the desk.
And for anyone hosting family who need a room close to the courses without staying inside a casino, the new Hampton Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, is pet friendly with free parking, 100% smoke free, surrounded by restaurants and golf courses and only a mile from the casino resorts, with complimentary hot breakfast, a fitness center, outdoor pool and hot tub, and a new cocktail lounge.
Looking further out, CasaBlanca plans to debut a new food hall in early 2026 featuring a mix of regional and national eateries, with an Einstein Bros. Bagels at CasaBlanca and a Burger King at nearby Virgin River also in the works. The dining turnover is not done.
The Takeaway
The old script for Mesquite in August was to leave town or hunker down. The new script, quietly written over the past twelve months, is that the resort corridor now runs a full weekly rhythm of rotating menus, member-priced shows, and expanded sports viewing that is more valuable to people who live here than to anyone driving through on the way to Zion.
